Lab Editor

This is its icon

Lab Editor is for creating, viewing, and editing Lab objects. All fields associated with a Lab are accessible from the Lab Editor.

As a viewer, Lab Editor launches on a Lab and shows all its fields. From the viewer GUI, you can modify the text of any of the Lab's fields. When you change a field, you are changing the data directly in the objects. However, this data will not be committed to the database until you click "Save Changes".

When you launch Lab Editor as a tool, you'll be shown a list of all available Lab objects. The first thing says "New Lab". If you choose "New Lab" you'll be prompted for the basic information needed to create a Lab object, and then you'll get the viewer gui where you can fill in the rest. If you choose one of the other Lab lines in the list, you'll get the viewer gui for that Lab.

Opening Lab Editor

On the Clotho dashboard, double click on the icon and run the Lab Editor application. The first pop up window with a drop down list will appear, where you can chose to create a new lab or edit a lab already saved.

Using Lab Editor

To create a name for your Lab, choose "New Lab" and click okay. In the next pop up window enter the name of your Lab and click okay. The next step is to choose the Lab’s institution from the drop down menu and click okay. Your institution would appear in the drop down menu if you ran and completed the Institution Editor application already. In the Edit Lab window you can enter more information about your Lab such as, website, principle investigator, and mailing address. Do not close this window before making sure the changes were saved. To confirm that the information added was saved, go to the Error Reporter window (it opens up automatically with CLOTHO) and towards the end of the page it should display “successful save of LAB” as highlighted below.

Lab Editor Example

Let's create a name for our "New Lab" by clicking "New Lab" and okay in our first pop up window. Next, we'll enter Smiths as the name of our New Lab in the Input box. Then, we have to choose our lab's institution from our drop down menu, so we click Rutgers University. This will finally bring us to our Edit Lab window where we can add more information about such as department name, principal investigator, website, and mailing address. As you can see our institution is already added to the window. After everything is added appropriately, we can click on save changes and check with our Error Reporter window whether this was saved successfully. If information was saved, it should display "successful save of LAB" as highlighted above. If not we can return to our edit window and click save changes again. Once confirmed, we can close our window and our Lab profile has been completed.
